Toliver Elementary got some new residents when excited students moved into their newly added classrooms after spring break. After 14 months of construction, the District mounted a huge effort to get the new space ready over the break, and the result has been a seamless transition into the new space.
Board Member Steve Becker said that “The biggest thing I noticed was the absolute pride that staff has concerning the building. They always – whatever was given to them or demanded of them – they always dealt with that. Now we have something to really be proud of.”
The new additions include a classroom wing, media center, cafeteria and kitchen, a multi-purpose room with a stage, and new administrative offices. A new, two-story common space filled with light bridges the interior and exterior of the building and visually connects to the new playground area.
Construction will now shift to the original 1920’s building, as spaces will be entirely renovated in phases starting on the third floor of the historic structure.
