The Henry County Board of Education has identified several needs for their facility, which was originally constructed in the 1950s. Goals for the renovation and addition work include providing a new kitchen and cafeteria, creating a new and more spacious media center, and renovating existing space to accommodate fine arts classrooms, ROTC, agricultural programs and technology education. The building’s existing kitchen and cafeteria will be renovated to become additional classrooms. Finally, a new practice gym and auditorium will be added to the building.
To achieve the district’s goals, the design team created an addition that spans across the front of the building. The new addition will not only greatly increase the facility’s available space, it will simultaneously provide a brand new face for the aging school.
Outside the building, site work will be completed to alleviate traffic issues. Site circulation patterns will be simplified and improved both around the high school and to a middle school also located on the campus. New landscaping will provide a shared courtyard between the high school and middle school creating a closer relationship between the buildings and fostering a campus environment.
All work on this extensive renovation project is being carefully phased to enable the school to remain functional during construction.
